A leading WWE star and significant competitor to John Cena may be leaving the company, as reports suggest his contract is nearing expiration.
The formidable Bobby Lashley, a two-time WWE Champion, hasn’t competed in a televised match for more than three months.
Lashley’s most recent televised appearance was in April, where he unsuccessfully competed for the number one contendership for the Undisputed Universal title.
Since then, he has only competed in five non-televised matches, with his last appearance in May, where he defeated Santos Escobar during a WWE European tour.
This represents a significant shift from his previous high-profile matches, including his 2007 WWE Championship bout against John Cena at The Great American Bash.
In a conversation with Mail Sport about WWE’s contract situations, Triple H, WWE’s CCO, remarked: “Like any sport or business, we sign talent and their contracts eventually expire. We also release talent—it’s all part of the process and an ongoing aspect of the business.”
According to an earlier report from Fightful, Lashley, a former US Marine, might be leaving WWE altogether after more than nine years with the company, spanning two separate tenures.
Additionally, the report from PWN, confirmed by the outlet, indicated that WWE had even removed the powerhouse from their internal rosters. However, as of the latest update, Lashley is still listed as a talent on WWE’s official website.
They reported: “Former world champion Bobby Lashley’s WWE contract is set to expire within the next month or so, possibly within a few weeks.
“PWN has discovered that Lashley has been removed from the internal roster page, although he remains listed on the company’s website. Fightful has also confirmed this information.
“Lashley has been inactive for several months, and sources have indicated that he intends to continue wrestling if a contract extension with WWE is not secured.”
Lashley’s situation reflects a broader trend in recent months as WWE has been managing its roster.
Fightful recently confirmed that veteran Natalya has signed a new multi-year deal with the company, extending her main roster career that has spanned nearly two decades. Natalya, a multi-time former world champion and the niece of Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart, is widely recognized as one of the top professionals in the industry.
Chad Gable is another name to have extended his contract with WWE under the guidance of Paul “Triple H” Levesque, the company’s Head of Creative. Gable acknowledged that Triple H’s leadership was a significant factor in his decision to re-sign, stating: “When Hunter took over, I immediately noticed a shift in my trajectory. I started getting more singles matches with top competitors, and it felt like a turning point. He’s delivered on almost everything he’s promised.”
Ricochet, a former WWE rival of Logan Paul, concluded his term with the company in dramatic fashion during a feud with Bron Breakker.
One key figure whose future remains uncertain after the expiration of their contract is Becky Lynch.
Despite not appearing on WWE programming since May, The Man continues to be one of wrestling’s biggest stars.
